Into the Rafters

The Miami HEAT honored Tim Hardaway at the 2009-10 NBA Season home opener by retiring his #10 jersey into the rafters! Now, I didn’t go to the game for that purpose, but I sort of grew up on Timmy since he did so much for my beloved hometown Golden State Warriors, so it was cool to be there and experience it, considering I don’t think they showed it on TV!

Actually, it’s sort of hard for me to think of him as a HEAT guy, because to me, when I think Tim Hardaway, I think Golden State WARRIORS – you know Run TMC…the McDonald’s “Tim and Chris” burger or was it “Chris and Tim” Burger!?! lol

They held the ceremony before tip-off of the NY Knicks vs. Miami Heat game, and there were several notables present on the floor surrounding him, like Chris Mullin and Alonzo Mourning, who also happens to be the only other HEAT player to have a jersey hanging in AAA! They also produced a great video reel of Tim, highlighting his NBA career and raised a HUGE jersey up, along with confetti and a standing ovation!

I attended the game with a few of my Miami crew. Shouts to Rene who was a soldier coming to the game, even though she has to get up for that early morning (news) shift at 3am!

One more thing…can I just say I <3 the HEAT Street Band!? I really enjoy their live music and tonight they had us “Swag and Surf!” You gotta luv it! 🙂

Another artist I am working with now is Vado…

Vado is on a fast track to becoming the next rap sensation out of Harlem. Teeyon Winfree aka Vado grew up in what is known as the “Hall of Fame” area of Harlem, the same streets that spawned hip hop icons Big L, Cam’ron, Mase, Max B and Jae Millz. He is the first artist signed to the U.N., Cam’ron’s newly formed music group.

Vado’s versatile talent, unique rap skills and undeniable swag set him apart from many up and coming artists. He has been featured on a DJ Kay Slay album and has found success with Cam’ron on the well-known DJ Drama “Gangsta Grillz” mixtapes. In addition, Vado’s recorded several tracks with hip hop artists like Rick Ross, Gucci Mane, Mase, Young Chris, Yung LA and Cassidy. He’s also been putting in countless hours in the studio working with producers such as Araab Muzik and AR15. This newcomer has even been seen on Sub Zero DVD.

The New York rapper proudly reps his “Most Hated” crew and is poised to take his career to the next level. Vado was first introduced to the game by legendary battle rapper Jae Millz, who is also a childhood friend. Be on the look out for this young talent who is hungry and anxious to make his mark in hip hop.

Jae Millz DUB Photoshoot

Yesterday was a busy day for me and my (Young Money) artist  Jae Millz. After a couple weeks, of planning, styling, coordinating and hustle…we were under a Miami bridge for Millz DUB Magazine photoshoot. He LOVED the purple watch….

Thanks to The Collection for the beautiful 2010 Aston Martin DBS Volante, as well as the shoot stylist Brie of Abriel Style, and “photo shoot” expert Kimi from Pamper Me Pink, they both kept me sane with all the last minute adjustments. I also appreciate UPnUP for accepting my invite to shoot some behind the scenes action for us! You can see more pix from the shoot here http://upnup.blogspot.com/2009/10/jae-millz.html

….and he also put together a quick video of the Millz shoot.

Ring the Alarm

For the first time EVER in my life I have been affected by, close to or threatened by a FIRE in the place where I lay down my head! Last night, about 4:20am I awoke to the sounds of a fire alarm in my building…now I wasn’t sure what to think, because the fire alarm has gone off at least 4 times by accident and a handful of other times for testing, etc…so was this real? But, the subsequent PA announcement declared a fire one floor below mine! So, I got myself together and proceeded to leave my place and head to the stairs. As soon as I got outside my door, I could smell the smoke – THERE REALLY WAS CAUSE FOR CONCERN. Basically I ended up descending 30+ flights of stairs with hundreds of half-awake neighbors and their pets. I did pretty well getting down – not a “stairs” workout I care for – but I did get sort of dizzy toward the bottom. My calves got pretty tight from the surprise trek, but at least I was safe. Everyone was now on the street, there were several Miami Fire Trucks and personnel on the street, and of all the times for Miami to be cold and windy, it was now! Luckily, my friend Cherisse lives in the building next door, and she answered her phone, so I was able to take refuge in her place. After an hour or so we went back to check and all was well, so I returned to my place…thank GOD! The moral of the story is, I was reminded of how quickly thing/life can change. In hindsight this is a minor inconvenience compared to what so many other people unexpectedly endure, but a literal “wake up call” that we should always be thankful to wake up and see another day.

FitSource Grand Opening

I had the opportunity to host the Grand Opening of “FitSource: Fitness Club for Women” in North Miami this week!

It’s the first of 3 planned locations and it’s a gym, just for…WOMEN! It’s co-owned by two lovely ladies, Yamin Meneses and Cynthia Alonso. It is SO WONDERFUL to meet and work with other females who are doing their thing!

One of my bestest childhood friend’s (Maureen) husband, Jaymer, snapped these shots for me a while back in San Francisco. He’s taken up photography and does a really good job…and gets better with every shoot! I think these are from back in February 2009.

I hadn’t posted them and now, looking back at them, I really like my hoodie in the shot, courtesy of Roselle at Nalej in Santa Clara. I think the thing I need to work on is my “pop-out” eyes issue…they get so big when I take pix! lol
