Buy My BRA!!!!

***UPDATE*** 04.07.12: The auction has begun…go here to bid now >> www.ebay.com/mzemmerssportsbraauction :: Aubrey Aquino – Autographed Sports Bra http://r.ebay.com/LGkL9X

I recently donated one of my old Oakland Raiderettes sports bras to a very worthy cause…the MZ & Emmers Sports Bra Auction for Breast Cancer Awareness.

“MZ & Emmers” was formed through a friendship between Women’s Professional Soccer star McCall Zerboni (MZ), and now five-year-old Emma Bayer (Emmers) and her parents. We are dedicated to raising awareness and funds in the fight against breast cancer, through the empowerment of women’s athletics.

My bra goes up for auction along with several other sports bras from women all across the world of sports beginning April 7, 2012 – I believe it’ll be on ebay. I was able to get involved after the organizer got in touch with Going Pro Entertainment founder and current Ms. United States, Laura Eilers. She’s a former Kansas City Chiefs and Saint Louis Rams Cheerleader.

Laura put the word out for us to send in a piece from our pro cheer days, and I did not hesitate to donate for such a worthy cause!! ๐Ÿ™‚ You can view all the “bras” here —> http://www.facebook.com/MZEmmers

Food for Thought: Jeremy Lin

I have been following Jeremy Lin’s recent rise in popularity with great interest, as I’ve been consumed by #LINSANITY and I’m enjoying the #LINSPIRATION he’s providing to myself and others…BUT today I decided to “vent” a little on my FB page, with (part of) my take on his story.

I need to get something off my chest… I think Jeremy Lin is being “over-Asian-ed”… For me, I like him because he’s AMERICAN..born in CA & raised in the BAY!!! I love his underdog story of hard work and perseverance, and how it’s translating to inspire both die-hard basketball fans along with random people who usually don’t care about the NBA and beyond! His ethnicity plays a (small) role in the story, but at the end of the day (regardless of ethnicity, race, culture) it makes me feel good to see someone who followed his dreams & is getting his opportunity to make them his reality! That’s the AMERICAN DREAM..THAT’S #LINSANITY!!!

My post started a nice discussion….with plenty of insightful comments! Readย  here and feel free to chime in http://www.facebook.com/aubreyaquino/posts/10150795715030968

I’m definitely not your casual basketball fan, especially when it comes to the NBA. I grew up on the game as far back as I can recall, watching whichever games were offered on TV with my parents, then the League Pass helped make it my family’s chosen everyday pastime when it was started (in the 90’s?!?), and we could tune in starting at 4/5 pm on weekdays on the west coast, viewing multiple games a night! Since then, I’ve worked for NBA teams and I’ve been known to schedule my life around the NBA schedule…so yeah, I’mย  fan and I love to watch good, fun, exciting pro bball!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I absolutely love how Jeremy Lin and his “story” have brought new interest and energy into the current season and the game in general. I’ve been reading a steady stream of articles about him and I wanted to share a couple I like….

For instance, this article in GQ – What the GOP Can Learn From Jeremy Lin – http://www.gq.com/news-politics/blogs/death-race/2012/02/what-the-gop-can-learn-from-jeremy-lin.html

This line from the piece really stood out to me…

“…he is an American, pure and simple, even though Americans insist on seeing him as an Asian who happens to be an American.”

And — my good friend Brian Tong of CNET put in his 2 cents about the “racist” ESPN mobile headline and why he’s “glad it happened.”

Chain, Chain, Chain…

I ordered these super cute, customized necklaces for my Mom and sisters as post-Christmas gifts and they finally arrived!! I discovered them while flipping through a Lucky magazine and decided to order these unique designs from Moon and Lola. You know sometimes when gift giving can be hit or miss and you think, well they can always return it if they don’t like it!?! Well, obviously when it (literally) has your name on it, not so easy! haha BUT — I knew these personalized chains would be a good fit since who doesn’t want something one of a kind, made especially for them!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

chains

Personally, I’ve always had a ‘thing’ about stuff with my name on it, because growing up, it was pretty much a NEVER that I could find key chains, mugs, stickers, etc… with my name printed on it. And — all of us gals, my Mom, me and younger sisters have all had gold chains with our names, except my neck kinda outgrew mine now!! LOL I haven’t seen them in person yet..shipped ’em straight to them, but my Mom is really happy with hers (Rose) and the photos look nice. YAY!!

DANCE FEVER

The 2012 West Coast Pro Dance Convention in San Jose on Sunday, January 29th was a HUGE success!! The event drew a diverse group of dancers, from retired alumni of the Tennessee Titans, San Francisco 49ers Gold Rush to Washington Redskins, as well as current dance teams members of semi-pro ABA teams & AFL Arena Football, along with aspiring pro team dancers gearing up for the 2012 audition “season!”

We also welcomed a trio of Japanese Cheerleaders who have danced for professional American sports teams, as well as pro teams in Japan!

Here’s a shot of me and Keiko, who has an impressive resume including all-star teams from Asia to the U.S.A…

This year’s West Coast Convention staff was jam packed with a super talented roster of Pro Team Alumni with credentials in the NBA, NFL, AFL and more!! WATCH the highlight video for a taste of what went down!! Press play…

Thanks to all our sponsors – Shakeology, PPN Solution, Go Wild! Wear and of course the San Jose Athletic Club for being our venue host!

Road Trip to JAX

T and I rolled out north on I-95 this weekend for an overnight trip to good ole Jacksonville…hehe! The mission of this adventure – catch Anjelah Johnson‘s show at Comedy Zone and visit with Cat! ๐Ÿ™‚ And — Cat and I happened to coincidentally do a taupe/black color combo matching outfits thing…LOL

So, I’m happy to report we made it to her late show Friday night and shared lots of laughs!! Side Note – Comedy Zone is in a Ramada..totally random..and uh yeah, we KNEW we weren’t in Miami anymore! We got to sit in the “VIP” section, which was like a sky box at a sporting event…but then again, not really.

The next day we headed out to downtown Jacksonville to have lunch with our favorite comedienne and found this beautiful vessel, “KISMET,” docked along the St. John’s River. Not only is it one of the most beautiful luxury liners I have ever seen, but its name pretty much describes me and T…his Mom referred to us as exactly that…KISMET.

Kismet is a word meaning Fate or Destiny, a predetermined course of events.

Anyhoo, we scooped up Anjelah and headed over to Biscotti’s for lunch…GREAT PICK Cat…food was perfect! Then I opted for soft serve ice cream, while my 3 amigos went for froyo.

BTW, if you’re reading this and aren’t familiar with my girl Anjelah’s work…here’s a teaser video for a new song/video being released by her character, “Bon Qui Qui” …. I’M A CUT YOU
