Into the Rafters

The Miami HEAT honored Tim Hardaway at the 2009-10 NBA Season home opener by retiring his #10 jersey into the rafters! Now, I didn’t go to the game for that purpose, but I sort of grew up on Timmy since he did so much for my beloved hometown Golden State Warriors, so it was cool to be there and experience it, considering I don’t think they showed it on TV!

Actually, it’s sort of hard for me to think of him as a HEAT guy, because to me, when I think Tim Hardaway, I think Golden State WARRIORS – you know Run TMC…the McDonald’s “Tim and Chris” burger or was it “Chris and Tim” Burger!?! lol

They held the ceremony before tip-off of the NY Knicks vs. Miami Heat game, and there were several notables present on the floor surrounding him, like Chris Mullin and Alonzo Mourning, who also happens to be the only other HEAT player to have a jersey hanging in AAA! They also produced a great video reel of Tim, highlighting his NBA career and raised a HUGE jersey up, along with confetti and a standing ovation!

I attended the game with a few of my Miami crew. Shouts to Rene who was a soldier coming to the game, even though she has to get up for that early morning (news) shift at 3am!

One more thing…can I just say I <3 the HEAT Street Band!? I really enjoy their live music and tonight they had us “Swag and Surf!” You gotta luv it! 🙂

Salt Lake City

I recently took a quick trip to Salt Lake City, Utah and shot the latest episode of On The Flipside at Sandbar!! Check it out…there’s an interview with the one and only LBJ about his new movie “More Than a Game” as well as all the highlights from Jason Taylor’s “Cool Gear for the School year” charity event at Old Navy, also seen on the scene were his teammates Greg Camarillo, Joey Porter and Akin Ayodele, as well as the Dolphins Cheerleaders, Miami HEAT Udonis Haslem, James Jones and alum Alonzo Mourning ..even rappers Rick Ross and Trina took time out to take part in the festivities! This episode also features Miss Florida USA 2010 Megan Clementi who is also a former Orlando Magic Dunking Dancer and retired NFL kicker Morten Andersen with the Garia Golf Car!

ELECTRO NIGHT

Creativas Group honored me once again by asking me to host  “ELECTRO NIGHT,” an event to launch the all new Title sports drink! The event was a huge success and many athletes and Miami-ans came to support the festivities.

One of the faces of Title, Miami Dolphins Ronnie Brown (center) made a cameo appearance…

Several professional athletes turned out for the festivities including Miami Dolphins (l-r) Nate Jones, Anthony Fasano, and Akin Ayodele, along with the man behind Title and NBA San Antonio Spurs Roger Mason Jr.

Here I am with my WSVN fam – Odette, Whitney and my co-host for the evening, Donovan.

And of course DJ Irie was holding it down on the turntables! Make sure you vote for him in the McDonald’s DJ Flavor Battle! http://flavorbattle.com

TKO

It only took Manny Pacquiao 2 rounds to “do his job” and KNOCKOUT the Brit, Ricky Hatton! The Pacman is definitely putting Filipino’s on the map and giving all Pinoy’s something to get excited about. I’m hearing the whispers that Mayweather will be next, sometime later this year. I doubt Floyd is gonna be okay with everyone calling Manny Pacquiao the POUND FOR POUND BEST in boxing. So, bring it on…that’s a fight I’ll have to see in person!

Daily Candy and iTunes

Today was a busy and BIG day for my show, On The Flipside!! We got a great placement in Daily Candy in their e-newsletter for “What to Do This Weekend” guide! It’s a very good look as they reach thousands all over the U.S. and in London, and I’m already getting a lot of interest emails, so we gotta keep the momentum going!

Lost at Sea

My heart goes out to the 3 men (Marquis Cooper, Corey Smith and William Bleakley) lost at sea off Florida’s west coast. I have been praying since I learned of their situation over the weekend, and I can’t imagine what their families must be going through…such a sudden, tragic and heartbreaking situation.

I particularly feel more connected to the story because I knew Marquis through mutual friends and I worked with his Dad, Bruce, in the sports department at KPNX in Phoenix, where we also hosted, Friday Night Fever (high school football show) together. He always spoke so highly of his only son and was the ever-proud father, even donning Marquis’ Tampa Bay jersey for one of our shows. I remain hopeful and will continue to pray and keep them all in my thoughts and prayers.
