Celebrating 25 Years of Arizona Cards Cheer

photo 3-2

It’s been a week since I had the opportunity to perform on Monday Night Football at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Last Monday, I took the field for pregame with more than 150 Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders Alumni to entertain the crowd before kickoff. The experience brought back the chills, some nerves and that anxious feeling you get before performing in front of tens of thousands of people! After being away from dancing on the NFL for several years now, I sort of had forgotten just how HUGE the field feels and how it feels to dance in the stadium. Plus, I had NEVER danced in a domed stadium before…during the one season I spent with the AZ Cardinals, they still played at ASU Sun Devil Stadium, so it did feel different to be in the air conditioned dome. Press play below to see video of the performance…

Anyhow, keep scrolling down to view some of the photos from my fun-filled weekend in the desert, celebrating the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleaders Anniversary.

“Football Player” Dances with the Dance Team

One of my good girlfriends in Arizona coaches the Sidewinders aka the Arizona Rattlers Dance Team and last night she shared a beyond awesome video with me of a performance during one of their arena football games. I started watching the video thinking her girls looked GREAT, dancing so clean and sharp…and then out of nowhere a “football player” – IN UNIFORM, jumps in and breaks it down…easily outshining the ladies! I told her this is too awesome not to share and she replied by telling me he was responsible for choreographing the whole routine too!! LOVE IT! Press play, you won’t regret it!

Flashback Video: Student Spotlight

Once upon a time when I lived and worked in Phoenix, I was a host/reporter for a Friday Night High School (Football) Sports show called “Friday Night Fever.” Every week I would cover one of the ‘marquee’ high school football games and also do a feature segment on a standout student athlete…which I hand selected from dozens of nominations that would pour in!

Well, a couple weeks ago while I had Sports Center running in the background, a name and story caught my ear…that of Arizona State Univ. wrestler Anthony Robles…and I just knew he was one of my ‘student spotlight” segments from 2005! Anyhow, this past weekend he became an NCAA champ and I just want to say I had him years before ESPN picked it up! LOL Really though, I love a story with heart, a person who strives for their goals, does whatever it takes to become the best at what they do and simply does not give up until they find a way to success! Well, it was evident in him 6 years ago, and the fact that he has had to overcome an extra obstacle makes his story all the more admirable. CONGRATULATIONS to Anthony on his latest achievement!

Anyhow, I dug deep in the tape archives, fired up the VCR and uploaded my Anthony Robles segment from when he was starting his senior year at Mesa High… Watch the flashback video below….

Desert Stop

I made an Arizona desert stop last week to shoot a couple story segments for a new Health & Lifestyle program I am working on ..and of course had to squeeze in a little time to catch up with a few Phoenix friends and this time it included meeting a couple of new additions.

Here I am with (l-r) Reina, Christy, me and Marette at Geisha

And..Marette brought along her newest “best man” Alijah – he’s such a smiley baby!!

Jaseon is an old school Phoenix homie who’s since moved back to the Bay, but he just happened to be in town to hang…it was like a reunion!!

I also caught up with a fellow TV newser, Caribe and her sweetie Neveah… 🙂

Home Improvement

I had to take an “emergency” trip to Phoenix to handle some unexpected repairs at my house, and it turned into a 3-day marathon of home improvements. We’re talking new carpets, painting all the walls and garage door, as well as fixing, replacing and DEEP cleaning of the entire house…among other things!

Thank goodness my friends Reina, Christy and Angie were around to lend their helping hands and keep me sane. Reina even created task lists and kept me focused!

Reina and I also made several Home Depot runs and discovered “Stardust Building Supplies” in Mesa, where you can find things like replacement toilet tank covers (yes, I needed to replace a damaged one)!

I’m so amazed at what we accomplished in just a few days…I guess I should’ve filmed it and turned it into an episode of Extreme Home Makeover or something for HGTV! lol
