Disneyland Memories

25 03 2017

When I think about my early visits to Disneyland when I was a child, the Main Street Electrical Parade is one of the first things that comes to mind, after Mickey and Minnie. In fact, if I’m being honest, I never even realized it went away….there definitely was a time lapse between my childhood, to now being a parent where I hadn’t visited Disneyland in YEARS!

Last year when I took my boys to Anaheim and Disneyland for the first time, I didn’t realize the night parade was not the same one I was accustomed to seeing during my visits as a kid. And, while the parade(s) we saw were awesome in their own right, it was very exciting for me to hear that the Main Street Electrical Parade is lighting up Disneyland once again!!!

There sure is something about it that’s very nostalgic to me, and being able to share that experience with the kids is very cool, not to mention maybe I won’t feel so “dated,” as the characters and visuals that amused me as a child will have the same effect on them today! All this being said, I got to do an interview about this excited (limited time) event at Disneyland. I spoke to Disneyland spokesman Eddy Collins and the man mouse himself, MICKEY MOUSE even dropped in on the interview I did for Bay Area LIFE. Check it out here…

If you want to see it and “relive” that childhood experience or maybe see it for the very first time, be sure to visit Disneyland Resort by June 18!!

Beer and Wine in Paradise

15 03 2016

If you’re a beer and wine fan AND headed to Maui anytime in the future…here are a couple MUST SEE spots for your visit! On my recent (work) trip to Maui we were able to visit and tour the island’s hottest spots for beer and wine…Maui Brewing Company and MauiWine. It was actually my second visit to MauiWine, I had went there previously with my sister and dad…but this time I got more of a “behind the scenes” look! And — I got to spin the footage for each place into feature segments for ABC7 Bay Area LIFE and you can watch them below!

KaBoom! I Helped Build a Playground

3 02 2016

There are so many events happening around the Bay Area this week related to Super Bowl 50, and while I will do my part to socialize and network at the various parties around town, I also took some time out to lend a hand in a KaBoom playground build in San Jose. I got involved, since ESPN invited some of the Disney (parent company) affiliates to pitch in, including ABC7 where I work part time. Also in the mix were other local community members and members of the Raiders and 49ers organizations too.

What brought this experience even closer to home is that fact that it was happening in my hometown San Jose. To have the opportunity to construct a playground for kids that are growing up among the same streets I did, made it all the more special. Not to mention that these days as a Mom, I spend A LOT of time hanging out at neighborhood playgrounds with my kiddos. I can’t wait to bring them by this one to show off what I did! :)

IMG_0007

At any rate, I didn’t really know what to expect. I’m not particularly strong and while I was my Daddy’s little helper in construction projects growing up…my handy-ness is limited to the “basics.” Anyhow, this is how it went down, all the volunteers, showed up bright and early and we were divided into groups with a team leader. Each group was responsible for  a specific component of the playground.

The group I was assigned to was in charge of 2 directional sign posts. We had to paint arrows and think of what we were going to write on them. We decided on one post carrying “location” tags and the other would have inspirational “directions.”

I was fortunate not to be mixing and pouring concrete aka “getting dirty,” (although I did some, to secure our post in the ground), and other groups were assembling the play equipment, painting a mural, erecting gazebos and sitting areas, etc…

And, I think my assignment was extra special because I got to work with some of the kids who live in the community and took the initiative to volunteer to help make it happen. I was impressed at the efforts by these young men.

The whole playground was constructed in about 6 hours. I mean of course they will properly inspect it and make sure it is sound for youngsters to start using it, but I was truly in awe of how quickly it all came together. It was a great day of teamwork and community service.

Buster Posey x Body Armor

27 08 2015

I’m not a big baseball fan, but sometimes I do interview baseball players… Today I headed into San Francisco to interview World Series Champion of the San Francisco Giants Buster Posey, at a Body Armor Super Drink event being held at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep, for Bay Area HQ. It was pretty fun as he surprised all the high school kids by popping up at their school for the event.

He talked about sports, being their age and how important it is to stay hydrated and think about nutrition at their age, as well as be physically active. In my interview with him, he was very nice and we reminisced a little about his high school days, who he may offer one of his famous “Buster Hugs” to — specifically which of his fellow Body Armor athletes like James Harden, Klay Thompson, Kobe Bryant, Rob Gronkowski, Richard Sherman, Andrew Luck, etc… and he also revealed he may want to do some acting!! :) Press play below to see my chat with Buster Posey.

Homeward Bound

26 06 2015

Today I made my last appearance on-air as Co-Host of The Hampton Roads Show, and I will be returning home to the Bay Area next week! It’s been lots of fun over the last 13 months on the show and I’ve had some exciting experiences and met lots of wonderful people, starting with the staff and crew on the show and at the station…as well as the chefs, comedians and range of guests who’ve stopped by the show too!

And — of course when you “leave” the next question is where are you going!?!? So, the short and simple answer is I’m leaving to be closer to family. I will be working as a freelancer in the Bay – so if you want to send work my way.. :) And, I will be have more time to focus on my duties as a Mommy to the best little boys anyone could ever ask for!!

Here’s a little Hampton Roads Show photo trip down memory lane…

Read Across America Day

4 03 2015

This year I had the honor of reading to 2 classes in celebration of “National Read Across America Day.” And in my case, it was days, as I read to a 2nd grade class at one school on March 2 – Dr. Seuss’ actual birthday, which spawned the reading event, and on March 4 with a pre-K class. Read across America Day is an annual event to promote reading and literacy for everyone. Thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers participate by bringing together kids, teens, adults and books for the occasion.

I read a Dr. Seuss book to 2nd graders at Poplar Halls Elementary called, “If I Ran The Rainforest.” That was fun, I had never heard of that ‘Cat in the Hat’ book before, but they enjoyed it and were a very captive audience!

The Pre-K class I read to was at James Monroe elementary. This class was very festive – I mean they are 4-year olds! Their teacher was even dressed like a fantasy storybook character… :) I didn’t read a Dr. Seuss classic to them, but instead one of my all-time favorites, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar.”

And — in honor of my reading efforts, I received a nice certificate along with popcorn in the school’s colors!

Trivia Crack and ME

10 02 2015

trivia crack

I had never even heard of “Trivia Crack” before the other day. It’s an online game, app, etc… Google Play lists it as:

Trivia Crack is the international smash hit game that pits friend against friend in different categories to determine who has the most trivia knowledge.

Okay, so the reason I am even mentioning this is because one of my friends apparently plays this and the other day a question about yours truly came up in the “entertainment” category! Imagine that…me a trivia question! haha

Anyway, she was amused by it and sent me a screen shot (BELOW). And — I’m happy to report she did answer that correctly. So, I guess this makes it official..I’m famous, right!?!? ;)
