Homeward Bound

Today I made my last appearance on-air as Co-Host of The Hampton Roads Show, and I will be returning home to the Bay Area next week! It’s been lots of fun over the last 13 months on the show and I’ve had some exciting experiences and met lots of wonderful people, starting with the staff and crew on the show and at the station…as well as the chefs, comedians and range of guests who’ve stopped by the show too!

And — of course when you “leave” the next question is where are you going!?!? So, the short and simple answer is I’m leaving to be closer to family. I will be working as a freelancer in the Bay – so if you want to send work my way.. 🙂 And, I will be have more time to focus on my duties as a Mommy to the best little boys anyone could ever ask for!!

Here’s a little Hampton Roads Show photo trip down memory lane…

Grape Stomping

In late January I participated in the Coastal Virginia Wine Fest “Grape Stomp”…and my competition was a Nathan James of iHeart Media. At the time I didn’t really consider that the weight and (foot) size difference might give him the advantage..but in hindsight…grrr!! All in all it was lots of fun, and I finally just found some photos and a video of it to share! For the record, it was my first time EVER doing something like this and I stomped out about 16 ounces…which I thought was pretty good! Nathan on the other hand had done this once before and he trumped my with something like 22 ounces?? Sheesh!! Enjoy the pictures and video below…

I Survived “The Stack”

stack

On my show, we have thing game called, “The Stack”…it’s basically like a big Jenga Tower with wood block and you want to pull one out, place it on top and NOT be the one to knock it down! So for the past 3 weeks, we’ve been asking our guests to pull from it and take turns…and every day for the past week,we though tit was gonna go! I often go in on my co-host cuz he is kind obsessive with this thing! haha! Anyway, today was a snow day and we didn’t have many guests and I got called out to pull one…. I wasn’t sure it was gonna happen, BUT… I DID IT!!! Whew!! Watch an encore of my performance below!!! 😉

Komen Tidewater

Do you tutu?? I recently participated in the “Do You tutu?” campain for the Susan G. Komen Tidewater organization. The promotional ad with me (and others) donning a pink tutu was to spread the word and promote the local “Race for the Cure” event in Hampton Roads.

The event took place this past Saturday and I was up before the break of dawn to do live shots for the station and get ready to emcee the event prior to the race. It was kind of fun to wear me news hat (literally) for the day, again! 😉

As you can see I wore a pink tutu once again, you know…getting in the spirit and showing my support for breast cancer survivors and the fight to find a cure. King Neptune made the photo too!! My tutu was courtesy of Amp’d Couture.

komen2

I worked on my selfies too…here I am with the other media hosts of the event… Face of Fox 43, Kevin Kennedy, Alabama Radio and Dominique Da Diva.

Here’s one more snap, me with the parade of survivors, the true VIPs of the day!

Mo’Nique x Me

monique

I met the very talented Mo’Nique during her visit to Hampton Roads when she came by my show to promote her appearance at the Virginia Beach Funny Bone. I really didn’t know what to expect…I think part of me still sees her as her Academy Award winning character from Precious! LOL! But seriously, she couldn’t have been more genuine and sweet…I was really in awe of what a true professional she is. I get to meet all kinds of people in my line of work and I can sincerely say she is top notch.

Check out the video below to see her interview. She came to the show with her friend and opening act TONE X, and we chatted about her doing the plank challenge, being Mommy’s to boys and she even shared her thoughts on Robin Williams, who coincidentally was the person who presented her the Oscar when she won in 2009. I can’t wait for the next time my path crosses with this amazing lady.

I recently hosted the “Face of Fox 43” special announcement show at my station. Every year WAVY’s sister station Fox 43 selects a “Face of Fox” who will represent the Fox affiliate hosting community events, tv segments and be the social media extraordinare for the station!

My “The Hampton Roads Show” co-host joined me in doing the prime time special, where Tyrus Jones, was named the new “Face of Fox.”

Here’s a sassy shot of me…

Bria Kelly from NBC’s The Voice

I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Miss Bria Kelly of NBC’s “The Voice” fame… She is a local to Hampton Roads and stopped by the show to talk about life post-The Voice. She was really sweet and I hope she continues to live out her dream of a career in music.

Flying Proms

flyingproms

I’ve been living and working in Virginia for a little more than 2 weeks now, and there’s nothing like acclimating yourself to new settings than by seeing the lay of the land. Well, I got to fly the friendly skies in a World War II era airplane…we’re talking open-air cockpit and prop engine! It was quite the experience as I got to fly high above Virginia Beach/Pungo area….and it was all so I could get a first hand preview of the “Flying Proms” event. Press play below to watch me take flight….we even used a Go Pro to get some of the in-plane footage!

And here’s a few more photos from my aviation adventure…
