FIGHTING

I caught an early screening of FIGHTING today…and I was “fighting” to stay in the theater! The movie jumps right into the story and attempts to have a “deeper meaning,” but seriously it made no sense to me. The storyline seems choppy and you’ll be feeling like, “I don’t get it.” Channing Tatum is convincing as a loner street fighter, and they kept his dialogue very basic…while the way Terrence Howard’s character talks was driving me nuts! I did think the movie’s love interest was a pretty girl though… Anyway, fight-scene wise, they did throw a lot of punches, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with the way it was shot, but I did catch myself thinking “how the hell can you edit this stuff,” it felt like everything was moving around (the shot, the people), I think that editor must be cross-eyed now! lol Channing might want to stick to dancing, cuz this film didn’t “Step Up.”  I’ve never been to an organized street fight, but to me it all seemed so random, like they’d be  in a room and GO…start fighting, no matter if it was a nicely decorated living room, street or a fancy building! Cung Le (SJ represent) had the better fight sequence  in my opinion,  but why was everything about that scene so “Oriental”…ay yi yi. Honestly, the best part to me was when they took their shirts off to fight! ha So, if you take the time to go see this in the theater, just know the mind stimulation you’ll get is trying to figure out what is really going on.

State of Play

I watched an advance screening of State of Play last night…VERY GOOD movie..it opens this Friday the 17th! First, it’s an all-star cast with Russell Crowe (he’s sporting that scruffy “American Gangster” look), Ben Affleck (the clean cut politician that was cheating on his wife), Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams (love her from the Notebook), etc… Second, it kept my interest the whole time and it’s one of those films that just when you think you know what’s going on, there’s another twist! And finally, there’s all kinds of elements going on, from drama, scandal, suspense thriller to action…I give it the “Aubrey Approval” and say it’s worth seeing in the theater!

What I’m Listening to Right Now…

jadakissthelastkiss

I picked up Jadakiss – The Last Kiss last week and I LOVE IT! I highly recommend it, especially for hip hop fans…just listening to it really made me feel like he’s bringing East Coast Hip Hop back…not to mention I hear Cam’ron will be back very, VERY soon too, as he’s shooting a new music video this week! FYI… I don’t really purchase much music, and this was money well-spent! MUAH!!

Also in my rotation is Masspike Miles – he’s Rick Ross’ R&B artist under Maybach Music Group…and you can download his R&B mixtape for FREE by clicking the link above. It’s got R&B, hip hop and a little bit of that Reggae flava too!

Cheerleaders to Triathletes

I’m still recovering from a busy weekend! I headed to Dolphin Stadium early Saturday morning to judge the first round of Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders auditions…I do not miss auditioning, but it was fun to reminisce about those days, as I watched nearly 200 women try and dance their way to a spot on the team. I will say the “freestyle” dancing in South Florida is different from how we dance out West, but maybe it’s a generational gap too! lol I’m looking forward to the final round at Aventura Mall on April 18, when I’ll help select the new team for next season, and see the veteran ladies from last year join in and fight to keep their spots! Below is a picture of me with one of my judge-mates, former NFL player, Louis Oliver… at one point he turned to me and said, “I don’t know how you ever put yourself through this!”

After a tough Saturday of listening to the same song over and over at auditions, I was on Miami Beach before the sun came up on Sunday, for the Nautica South Beach Triathlon…over 1400 participants…who knew!?!?

triathlon

Michelle Williams (Destiny’s Child) sang the national anthem and Anna Kournikova ran on a celeb relay team, while former “bachelor” star, Andy Baldwin took first place in the celeb division, finishing all three events in about an hour and a half…I’d still be swimming! ha BTW…the last picture is what I look like when I get up to work before the break of dawn! Anyway, the interviews were great and should turn up On The Flipside soon…

Bart Got A Room

I had the opportunity to sit down to Brian Hecker, Director of “Bart Got a Room.” It’s a coming of age feature, starring William H. Macy, entirely shot in South Florida and Brian took me behind the scenes (okay it was after the fact) to a couple of the movie shoot locations in Hollywood (Florida)! We stopped by le Tub restaurant, which I had never been to before but apparently Gayle (Oprah’s BFF) says it has the the best burgers around and then we stopped by a tux shop Rich Formal Wear to reminisce about the high school prom! haha

Marchesa Girls

I had the pleasure of interviewing the “Marchesa Girls” last week at Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour! These ladies create some of the most beautiful & amazing dresses and gowns and you’ve seen the Marchesa designs on all the red carpets! JLo, Halle Berry, Freida Pinto, etc… I wish I had enough occassions and events to wear every single one in the collection.

Side note…I wore my friend Tamae’s – Ishii NYC designer top – for the interview and got tons of compliments. See my previous post where I mentioned that Paula Abdul wore the same top for an episode of American Idol!

AKOO by TI

I attended the AKOO by TI fashion show Saturday night for Funkshion fashion week! It was a nice show and there was some nice stuff…check out my girl Melanie Tillbrook (below) workin’ the runway. After the AKOO show in the tent on the beach, I went to the Parish fashion show on a Yacht! I couldn’t find pictures from that show though…
