MIA Girl

Friday night I had the opportunity to be a judge for the MIA Girl Model Contest in downtown Miami. Hundreds of women submitted their photos online and the field was narrowed down to 30 for a night of pageantry at MIA Biscayne.

Below I’m pictured with Tito Puente Jr. and Esther Dollar.

**MORE PHOTOS TO COME**

Judges included: Alicia Faccio,  Miss Latina International Esther Dollar, Modeling Agent Nicole Shelley, Director Mujer Magazine Karla Chavez, Latin Grammy winner Jorge Moreno, Editor of Venue Magazine Herman Echevarria Jr., Former Mr. USA 2010 Dr. Ivan Rusilko, Fashion Marketing Director for Cigar Snob Magazine Ivan Ocampo, Eyewonder CEO & Founder John Vincent and recording artist Tito Puente Jr.

This year’s winner received $10k to represent MIA Biscayne for the next year and make appearances at several events as well as participate with a different charity every month! She has also been invited to attend my South Florida Pro Dance Convention next Sunday, February 27, 2011 at FitSource, so she will learn all the skills she needs to be well-prepared for the year ahead as “MIA Girl!” And — here she is…

Thanks to Liza and Gabriel at CREATIVAS for always including me in these exciting events!

OG X ANJELAH

One of my favorite things to do is be a “connector.” By connector I mean putting people together who can collaborate or help each other. I want all my friends to be friends… if I have one person over here who can help another person over here…well why not?? So, last year during my travels to Austin, TX, I got a chance to become even more familiar and acquainted with a talented photographer OG. He’s done lots of music and hip hop photo projects, even getting his work published in Jay-Z’s book Decoded. At any rate, I knew my good friend Anjelah would be traveling to TX for different stints at the comedy clubs there and I pitched the idea for him to document her work and shows as a comedienne, similar to how he does for (music) artists… Well, when Anj got on board it was a GO and the result is a beautiful series of images that give you a glimpse into a day in the life of Anjelah Johnson. I love being a “connector.”Check it out here – http://ogphotographer.com/anjelah

MIAMI – Pro Cheer and Dance Workshop

I am often asked and approached by women who are interested in joining the ranks of “pro” cheerleaders and dancers in the NFL and NBA. The problem is there aren’t always a lot of resources around to accurately prepare a candidate for the audition process, not to mention the choreography style, hair/makeup, fitness, attire and the interview process that are also a part of the road to Going Pro!

So, I am excited to announce that I am coordinating a “Miami Pro Dance Convention” for Going Pro Entertainment! The event takes place Sunday, February 27, 2011 at FitSource in North Miami. The are 2 separate sessions, AM and PM…and each has its own unique routines and presenters. I have some amazing choreographers and presenters on deck for the event and I know it’ll be a huge success. The agenda includes NFL and NBA style choreography, informative Q&A, as well as gift bags! 😉

OTF: 305

I just edited my final episode of On The Flipside for 2010! It’s been another great year, slowed down a bit, but definitely had fun putting all this great content together and thankful for everyone who helps me get it done!! On this episode, I used the American Airlines Arena in downtown Miami as my backdrop (hence 305) and we’ve got highlights from Juwan Howard’s “Juice Foundation” fashion show launch, the ribbon-cutting for Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis new real estate endeavor, then the Miami Dolphins have gone to the dogs! Actually some of the players posed with their dogs for a (charity) calendar… plus we go to the Sucka Free to profile 49ers Gold Rush member Jasmin… Press play below!!

C + K Wedding

Yet another wedding…LOL I spent the past weekend back in the Bay Area for my good friend Carol’s wedding! I’ve known Carol since college and she even traveled with me to Australia years ago to visit my sister when she was studying abroad. Anyhow, she married her longtime boyfriend Ken in Gilroy and we went to a fabulous resort called Cordevalle for the reception…great setting and good food!

You may recall a few posts back when I detailed our Vegas adventure for her bachelorette party…well the fun continued at the wedding!

From the church to the reception…

I LUV these ladies…

…always posing for the camera…

BTW…this is my favorite photo from the wedding…taken by yours truly…

🙂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSELLE!!! xoxo

Hola CABO!

I took my travels international this past weekend for one of my long-time girlfriend’s wedding celebration. I was one of her chosen bridesmaids and it was exciting to head south for this destination wedding…my first time going to CABO, MEXICO! There was so much going on, I didn’t take too many pictures on my personal camera, but here’s what I have…

So, I met up with fellow bridesmaid Carrie at LAX to fly into SJD, and after slight haggling with the “timeshare solicitors” at the airport, we arrived at the wedding venue hotel, Sirena Del Mar. It’s a pretty new hotel, under a year old (across from Home Depot) on the way to downtown Cabo. Aside from the lovely newness of the resort, we were greeted by a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean!

Imagine having THIS as your backdrop for a wedding ceremony!?!? NICE!!

A popular balcony/patio feature was the hammock..see Carrie and Amaya enjoying…

Then it was time to get ready…Maureen and I suited up in our dresses…I’m just tickled by the photo of our dresses on the hangers!!!

Then, I did Flower Girl Amaya’s hair… she loved it!

Okay, I won’t leave you like that, but here’s me on the beach in Cabo saying, “Adios!”

Novalash

The things we do for beauty… Well, I recently had an opportunity to get my lashes “extended” by Novalash! I love eyelashes and the idea of “lashing out” with extensions was too exciting to pass up, so as you can see, I went “under.”

aubrey-novalash3

The process was actually pretty relaxing, I just had to keep my eyes closed for about 2 hours, and they said it was okay for me to fall asleep. What they’re basically doing is “extending” you natural lash with a synthetic one….so they attach them to the ones you have, and you can pick how thick or thin you want to go! They will last about 60 days – a normal cycle for your lashes, but you can get them “filled” every four weeks if you choose to keep them up!

All in all, it was an easy process, it didn’t hurt and the results are amazing, I look like I have mascara on all the time! There are some precautions though to make sure they last and stay intact, like you have to use non-glycol makeup remover and there’s also special eyeliner and mascara that Novalash carries to compliment the extensions. So far, I have been very careful to properly maintain my added “beauty!”

And — when it’s all done, voila!! An instant eye-opener, that makes you feel better about going (eye) makeup free!! Here’s a picture of me post-Novalash with Michelle of “Let’s Talk Makeup.” She did my lashes and is also an instructor for Novalash!

Thanks to Ali too!! I LUV my lashes!!

OTF: Where BROOKLYN at??

I finally finished editing a new episode of On The Flipside!! I shot the intros and wraps on location during a trip to NYC a few weeks back. I’ve definitely been bogged down with other projects and priorities, but I didn’t want to neglect my passion project too much. I’m trying to at least do 1 a month depending on what I have going on!! Anyway, this new show features an exclusive with NBA star turned rapper, the LA Lakers Ron Artest, performing in Hollywood at Highlands Club with the Slam Girls. I also catch up with (my favorite) the Oakland Raiderettes for their annual calendar release party, then there’s highlights from retired NFL player Fred Taylor’s foundation launch event and an interview with Olympic Gymnast Nastia Liukin about her new “Super Girl” clothing line at JC Penney! Be sure to TUNE IN!! http://ontheflipsidetv.com

Special thanks to One9 for his help with this episode!!
