An “Irie” Christmas

The one and only DJ Irie hosted a FANTASTIC holiday party on Miami Beach last night with Ludus, to support his Irie Foundation. I am proud to say that Irie was one of my first “Miami friends” before moving to Florida, and since that time his star has grown exponentially..and very well deserved! He is one of the hardest working people I know, but always stays humble, gracious and grounded…I can’t say enough.

All that being said, anytime I can support and attend one of his events, I do my best to be there! Well, last night he definitely outdid himself. He hosted the most lavish, decadent, holiday party on Miami Beach at a private residence and he pulled out all the stops with theme, decor and entertainment..in true MIA fashion! From elf-fitted servers to nutcrackers, Santa and a crew of “Ho, Ho, Ho’s”…there was snow, elaborate lighting, exotic cars, Stoli drinks flowing and of course the music to put you in the Holiday spirit..or just party mode!

Trick or Treat

I stepped out last night in costume to attend a friend’s party…I “recycled” my costume! ha! I’m always amazed at the creativity people display for the occasion…I’m not super “spirited,” but I do appreciate those who go all out.

My sister Ade is a Halloween lover who takes it to another level…can you guess what her get up is??? She went the “edible” route… LOVES IT!!

In costume or not…always good times with my girls!! 🙂

So then I started thinking about past Halloween (work) experiences… In 2008, I visited a haunted house in Miami that seriously had me “spooked!!” I laugh now, looking back at the video, but that “startle” factor had me shook when I walked through the haunted house!!

And — in 2007 (my original Wonder Woman cameo) I hung out at O.J. McDuffie’s “Grand Ghoul” Halloween charity event in Florida, and interviewed Michael Irvin and some Miami Dolphins… 🙂

Ah, the memories…

Stylin’

I had the awesome opportunity and experience to get “styled” at Banana Republic today at their Flagship store on Grant in SF..GINORMOUS!! I was set up with a personal shopper, and after I gave them my two cents ahead of time of the types of things I like, what styles I’m looking for and what I’m trying to do fashion-wise, they created a beautiful set-up in a fitting room for me so I could try to a bunch of new “looks!!”

My “stylists” Sayareh and Nanci did a great job of selecting items in-line with what I had told them I wanted, and there were several combinations and options to mix and match all the pieces.

br1

One of my “issues” is that since I’ve been living in Miami the past 5 years, my wardrobe is reflective of that….and now being in the Bay Area, it’s different – like sometimes my sister Ade says I’m looking a little “bootylicious,” because of how fitted my clothing can be, and then learning to layer is a must since the temps can range 30 degrees, depending where you are in the Bay.  I mean, in South Florida anything goes when it comes to dress, but I also felt the need to update myself to a more ‘mature’ look!! And — the GREAT thing I learned in the stylin’ session is that you can still look good, feel sexy and show off your shape, with chic sophistication!

br2

There were crop pants and long pants, scarves, shoes, blouses, jackets, vests, cardigans, dresses, hats, bags and belts…. After more than an hour of trying stuff on and figuring out what worked and what didn’t, I was able to narrow down my choices (that fit in the budget) of what I wanted to purchase and bring home! Typically my fashion sense is to keep it simple and safe, so having a personal shopper/stylist to show you different ways to wear things or try on clothes you would’ve never looked twice at was a very cool experience. I had done something like this once before at Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour for more formal upscale wear, but it’s always great to have an “expert” around to have an honest, second opinion and allow them to inject their fashion sense into you!!

br

So, yeah…I highly recommend the experience… Just beware, unless you are prepared to BUY EVERYTHING you fall in love with…stay focused! I may be seeing some of the items I left in the store in my dreams! ha

Wedding of the Year

I headed back to my Miami stomping grounds this past weekend to take care of a few things and attend the “Wedding of the Year!” Where do I start?? First of all, Donovan and Jessica are a beautiful couple and they mirror each other as far as the guy/girl versions of themselves…so I was so excited to be invited to their wedding. And, I was thinking that because Donovan started working at WSVN, shortly after I arrived…and I introduced him to Johanna, when we all went out one night…and Johanna is BFF with Jessica… So, IF he technically met Jessica through Johanna..does that mean I’m THE ONE responsible for their paths crossing!!?!? Okay, maybe it’s a stretch, but I will take credit! 😉

The ceremony was held at the Grand Beach Hotel on Miami Beach overlooking the ocean and the bridal party was pretty large, consisting of 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen! The bride wore a beautiful ivory colored gown, which was designed and made by her mother…AMAZING! The clouds did look ominous for a while, but the weather held out, and despite being whipped by the wind, it was a flawless ceremony.

For the reception, we moved next door to the Miami Beach Resort into a beautiful multi-level ballroom with a huge dance floor in the center of the room. I had never even really noticed this hotel existed or even thought to go in, but the reception room was so elegant and perfect. They had comedian Benji Brown emcee (so you know it was laughs) and Prince Markie Dee held it down on the 1’s and 2’s….

So, one of my most favorite things about this event was the photo booth! The lighting was just so fabulous I had to go in 1, 2 , 3 …okay A LOT!! First with my Deco Drive partner in crime, Odette… then my 400 Life fam – Darrin and Adam….

… and again with the “table 10” TV ladies – Lisa, Constance, Rene and ME!!

Our table was seated right next to the photo booth too….so that made it convenient! haha

And — here’s a pic of me and (bridesmaid) Johanna…remember my theory above!!? LOL

DSCF6176

All in all…WEDDING OF THE CENTURY, but I didn’t expect anything less than fabulous from a couple who did a “music video” for their save the date!!

BTW…Jessica is a wedding and event planner, so if you want something fabulous, she is the GO TO GIRL —> www.lavishsoiree.com Finally, I couldn’t resist posting some of the videos from the wedding….feel free to watch and get a small taste of what it was like to be there!! SO MUCH LOVE in that room!! <3

Saggy Pants

So I did this “Saggy Pants” story last week in light of the UNM Football Player who got kicked off a US Airways flight for “sagging”…then this week a photo comes out of a guy in woman’s lingerie who flew on a cross-country US Airways flight with no problem…hmmm?? Anyway, I was so intrigued by this photo..I just had to post. I mean, I would’ve asked him to cover up…just sayin!

Yet another reason to fall back from flying US Airways …they def aren’t my airline of choice.

And, my Saggy Pants story for KRON…thanks to the Hoodstarz who have a song called “Saggy Jean Era” and Jan at FATLACE SF for breaking down what the “sag” means to them!

OTF: Episode 30 from Maui

It’s a milestone..EPISODE 30 for On The Flipside!! And on this special episode, my sister Adrienne helped me shoot the intros and wraps while we were on vacay in Maui (you know I always multi-task)! This show features a photo shoot with NBA star Dwyane Wade, separate sit down interviews with the NFL’s Santonio Holmes and Ronnie Brown…and we can’t forget the Sideline Distraction feature on an Orlando Magic dancer!
