Salt Lake City

I recently took a quick trip to Salt Lake City, Utah and shot the latest episode of On The Flipside at Sandbar!! Check it out…there’s an interview with the one and only LBJ about his new movie “More Than a Game” as well as all the highlights from Jason Taylor’s “Cool Gear for the School year” charity event at Old Navy, also seen on the scene were his teammates Greg Camarillo, Joey Porter and Akin Ayodele, as well as the Dolphins Cheerleaders, Miami HEAT Udonis Haslem, James Jones and alum Alonzo Mourning ..even rappers Rick Ross and Trina took time out to take part in the festivities! This episode also features Miss Florida USA 2010 Megan Clementi who is also a former Orlando Magic Dunking Dancer and retired NFL kicker Morten Andersen with the Garia Golf Car!

Love Happens

I wasn’t going to blog about this movie because I didn’t think I had much to say about it…BUT I thought of a few things I could share! First off, let me tell you what I liked…I loved the style of Jennifer Anniston’s character…GREAT wardrobe. It made me sort of miss layering my clothes and wearing things with sleeves…too cute. Also the Seattle backdrop for the movie was beautiful. A great change of scenery and pretty views. Anytime I think of Seattle I think of my Godparents who live there and a time when I was really young and we went to Space Needle and Puget Sound on a motor boat ride. Anyway, in the film, Anniston plays a single woman, a flower shop owner who isn’t having much luck with her (cheating) BF and she meets a man (Aaron Eckhart) who’s in town to host a seminar related to his best selling book. He’s a motivational speaker type..a little too Tony Robbins-ish for me though! haha So while the movie had good intentions, in the end I think there was a lack of on-screen chemistry to sell the idea of “love” to me. It felt slow at times and I was thinking how much more can this go on. Love Happens wasn’t TERRIBLE by any means, but more of a “I’ll wait until it comes out on video” kind of movie…a DVDer if you will.

Funny People

Two screenings of a pair of comedy’s in 2 days! I’m happy to say that “Funny People” is FUNNY. There are lots of good laughs and the story makes sense, plus since there are so many comedians in it and it’s about their everyday lives (in a way) I also felt like I was sitting at a comedy club. Myspace makes a cameo in the movie, as do Rza, Eminem (Hip-Hop is EVERYWHERE!) and Ray Romano, to mention a few names…but let me not forget James Taylor – one of my Dad’s all-time favorite musicians, very cool and FUNNY to see him pop up! One of the things I loved most about the movie, besides the jokes, wit and sarcasm, is how the story had a heart and I could relate to the characters and situations. Don’t tell anyone, but I think I’m gonna go work on my “standup” now! haha

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard

So, because Jeremy Priven is a friend of a friend…well actually he’s a friend of two friends, but anyway…I got a call from him yesterday to come check out his new movie “The Goods” for the Miami screening.  I got an email, then a call, followed by a text…I felt “kida sorat special.” 🙂 Funny movie…sort of makes selling cars look attractive! haha I thought about my own trips to the car dealership to shop for cars, and as a female, we’re always worried we’re gonna get ripped off! The characters in the film are fun to watch and the movie makes for a nice “ride” (pun intended) and the comedic cast includes Will Ferrell, plus a couple of our favorite characters from The Hangover as well!

Right after the screening ended Jeremy actually came out and did a Q&A session with the audience, and it was insightful for me to hear what “the people” want to ask, because usually I am the one asking the questions! Anyway, I did get to speak with him briefly as he walked out of the theater, but it was like a “gang bang” with all the fans and their cameras and phones rushing him – sacurrrrity!!! So, I didn’t bother to get OUR picture and sorry GG…I didn’t get to talk to him about WWE Raw either…next time!

Bruno

I caught a “sneak preview” of new movie BRUNO last night, and thought I’d share my reaction… I guess the best way to illustrate my exact thoughts are to imagine if you were sitting next to me in the theater. My soundtrack would’ve went something like this: “Wow…OMG…are you serious? REALLY!?!…Wow, WOOOOW…OMG…What!?!?” It was that type of thing (for me) over and over. Anyway, after we view films they always ask us for quotes, and a few words key words fit my description…INTERESTING, SHOCKING and DIFFERENT! Okay, so maybe it’s me and Sacha Baron Cohen’s humor isn’t really my taste. I also kept thinking, how did he film this all “real life”…some of it I could see, but other parts, I just wonder what they told everyone to justify having cameras rolling! A word of warning, there’s A LOT of full, frontal male nudity. I remember when I first heard of him back in Australia in 2002. My friend Carol and I were visiting my sister Adrienne who was studying abroad in Sydney, and we kept seeing these billboards for the Ali G movie…so we went to check it out…I didn’t get him then either! Anyway, he definitely has a recurring theme with a fascination on the gay lifestyle and male “private” parts. Now, there are scenes in the movie that are funny, but it’s one of those it is WHAT IT IS type deals.

The Hangover

“What happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas” …but sometimes it’s hard to remember exactly what happened in Sin City! For this special edition of On The Flipside, Aubrey Aquino sits down with Hangover star Bradley Cooper to talk about the film and what it was like to work with the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson. Iron Mike makes an impressive cameo in the movie, and shows off his flipside with a rendition of In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins!

FIGHTING

I caught an early screening of FIGHTING today…and I was “fighting” to stay in the theater! The movie jumps right into the story and attempts to have a “deeper meaning,” but seriously it made no sense to me. The storyline seems choppy and you’ll be feeling like, “I don’t get it.” Channing Tatum is convincing as a loner street fighter, and they kept his dialogue very basic…while the way Terrence Howard’s character talks was driving me nuts! I did think the movie’s love interest was a pretty girl though… Anyway, fight-scene wise, they did throw a lot of punches, but I wasn’t particularly impressed with the way it was shot, but I did catch myself thinking “how the hell can you edit this stuff,” it felt like everything was moving around (the shot, the people), I think that editor must be cross-eyed now! lol Channing might want to stick to dancing, cuz this film didn’t “Step Up.”  I’ve never been to an organized street fight, but to me it all seemed so random, like they’d be  in a room and GO…start fighting, no matter if it was a nicely decorated living room, street or a fancy building! Cung Le (SJ represent) had the better fight sequence  in my opinion,  but why was everything about that scene so “Oriental”…ay yi yi. Honestly, the best part to me was when they took their shirts off to fight! ha So, if you take the time to go see this in the theater, just know the mind stimulation you’ll get is trying to figure out what is really going on.

State of Play

I watched an advance screening of State of Play last night…VERY GOOD movie..it opens this Friday the 17th! First, it’s an all-star cast with Russell Crowe (he’s sporting that scruffy “American Gangster” look), Ben Affleck (the clean cut politician that was cheating on his wife), Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams (love her from the Notebook), etc… Second, it kept my interest the whole time and it’s one of those films that just when you think you know what’s going on, there’s another twist! And finally, there’s all kinds of elements going on, from drama, scandal, suspense thriller to action…I give it the “Aubrey Approval” and say it’s worth seeing in the theater!
